The real value of this post is not in debating Korea-or Japan-biased specifics, but in attempting to explain the debates over Dokdo (Takeshima, Liancourt Rocks, whatever) empathetically. Too often, the persistance of many Koreans on this issue is dismissed as "nationalistic" or "irrational." Thank you for delving deeper.

I'm not trying to get a angry reaction from anyone but...

>the East Sea islets of Dokdo, called Takeshima in Japanese

The official name of the sea is 日本海 (Sea Of Japan). "East Sea" isn't really a neutral name...it's only "east" of Korea, from Japan it's to the "west".

And if Japan wasn't here, there wouldn't be a sea there at all...it'd just be part of the Pacific Ocean.

Anyways, the strait between Korea and Japan is called the "Korean Strait".

As for 竹島 (Takeshima (or "Dokdo"))...it's international official name is "Liancourt Rocks".
