PD Diary apologizes for “beef” errors

Today’s JoongAng Daily reports the influential MBC program PD Diary issued a “reluctant apology” for inaccuracies in it’s show on US beef and mad cow disease, errors that led to widespread protests here in June and July. 

Questions remain however over whether the program’s producers intentionally distorted the contents of their report in order to fan political flames. Prosecutors in Seoul have requested the original reports, in order to compare them with what was aired. PD Diary has thus far refused the request, claiming press freedom. 

In it’s defense PD Diary has gone after the big three conservative papers in Korea, the Chosun Ilbo, JoongAng Daily, and the Dong A Daily, commonly referred to as ChoJoongDong. It says the papers ran a smear campaign against the program, criticizing the show while failing to represent its side of the story.
