Police yesterday arrested a young 23-year-old man for allegedly attempting to set Seoul’s Dongdaemun (Great East Gate) on fire, the JoongAng Daily reports. The arson attempt comes six months after Namdaemun, Seoul’s six hundred-year-old southern gate and national treasure, was destroyed by arson in a tragedy that shocked the nation. 

After his arrest, the young man, identified by the surname Jung, told police ““I wanted to become a singer, but people around me laughed at my dream. I thought setting Dongdaemun on fire would make me famous.”

  1. wow, what is this obsession so many people have with wanting to be famous? And then when their dreams are not realized they commit a crime to get attention. Luckily in this case the accused didnt resort to killing those who had made fun of him…
