Dongdaemun Market, Seoul

Dongdaemun Market, Seoul

As a former bicycle courier, images like this never fail to catch my eye. The tray he’s carrying is filled with boiling hot stew, on a boiling hot day, in the midst of the chaos that is downtown Seoul traffic. I watched as he stuttered and rolled through people, scooters, and cars to deliver someone’s lunch. As modern and high-tech a place as Seoul is, it’s these tried and true methods that keep the place humming!

  1. very entertaining iamge and story… that poor guy must be headed for a coronary.

I too used to be a courier, though I drove my car. A quick story:
When I was delivering jobs for the University of Toronto Press I would often get tickets for parking in unauthorized spots. It was suggested to me that I go to Police headquarters just a few blocks away and tell them my story and I could likely get the tickets deleted. So that sounded great to me and I headed over there on my lunch break. After a fairly brief 15 minutes I had succeeded in having several tickets torn up. Feeling very happy with my success, I headed back outside only to find that I had been ticketed infront of the police station… F!*% !!!
